don’t forget: online self-assessments and payments on account need to be submitted january 31stcreative77
Time is running out.
If you need to and you haven’t filed your online self-assessment tax return for 2018/19 yet…
It’s time to hurry.
You only have until the end of this month.
And even if you have already submitted it, if you’re liable to make a payment on account and haven’t made it yet…
The deadline is the same:
In other words, in less than two weeks’ time.
If you’re reading this thinking: I’m sorted. Great and well done.
But the fact is:
It’s estimated around a million self-employed people will file their returns within just 72 hours of the January 31st deadline.
So, if you are among that troop, the good news is you’re not alone.
The bad news is…
You need to get it sorted ASAP.
Of course, the last thing we want you to do is panic and if you think you might be in a fix…we’re here to help.

avoiding fines is a priority
You might be wondering what’s the fuss?
Missing the January 31st deadline can’t be that big of a deal. Can it?
Sadly, this one is.
The fines can rack up pretty quickly.
For starters, there’s an instant £100 penalty.
Nobody wants that.
But if you’ve still not paid the bill after 30 days, you could start to be charged interest on the monies owed.
Alternatively, if you haven’t paid the bill after 90 days of it being due – you could incur a £10 a day penalty up to £900 on top of the tax you owe.
Again, this isn’t great and the last thing you want.
So, it clearly pays to make sure you’re submitted and sorted before the 31st January.
In fact, it’s advisable to at least submit a provisional tax return before the deadline and you can then file a final return, after the deadline, once you have been able to double check all the information. You might avoid penalties that way.
But naturally, it’s much less stressful in the long run if you can get it completed correctly.
Hopefully you’re reading this while there’s still time to act and get your online assessment done in full and in time.
