Appleleaf Accountancy would like to welcome to the team our new Trainee Accountant, Ben Scrivener.

Ben, at the ripe age of 25, has recently joined Appleleaf as an accountant’s assistant to Matthew & Rob, and after just a month is settling in really well with the team.

Ben achieved a 2.1 in his degree and has spent the last three years working with a local accountancy firm where he has really enjoyed learning the ropes.

Following his successful first month in employment, we took some time to interview Ben to see how he is finding his new role so far.

Appleleaf: What did you want to be when you grew up?

Ben: Actually, believe it or not, I didn’t grow up dreaming of becoming an accountant; I wanted to be a Doctor of all things!

Appleleaf: Hopefully you will become a doctor of all accountancy one day.

Ben: Yes let’s hope so, that would be great!

Appleleaf: How have you found working at Appleleaf so far?

Ben: To be honest, joining the Appleleaf team has been a breath of fresh air, and I now have so many more opportunities open to me.

In the short time I have been employed by Appleleaf, the team have been so supportive and have given me the confidence and on-going knowledge to really help me grow.

There is a great vision for the company’s growth, and I am really proud to be able to be part of this.

Appleleaf: That’s great to hear. How have you found working during lockdown?

Ben: I have been one of the lucky ones and have managed to work from home. I have not been furloughed at all and it’s just great that I still have a full time job.

Appleleaf: When you are not crunching numbers, is there anything else you really like doing?

Ben: Football, I love it! I can’t wait to get back on the pitch again. I really enjoy watching it too.

I support our local club, (Grimsby Town) and when lockdown is over, I will really look forward to watching some live football.

I also enjoy a cheeky drink at weekends and look forward to catching up with friends when we are allowed!

Appleleaf: Couldn’t agree more with that Ben! What are your future goals, apart from becoming a famous footballer of course?

Ben: I am concentrating on achieving an ACCA qualification in the future, the same as Matthew and ultimately becoming a qualified accountant.

But for now, I am just enjoying growing with Appleleaf and being part of a fantastic team.
